Issue #25 of the Foundation Shine newsletter is now live!

The latest issue is jam-packed with lots of the latest information and news as the world adapts to the Covid-19 pandemic and everything surrounding it.

In this issue we profile the efforts of Skylight, who have continued to be on the forefront of mental health support during the pandemic.

We also reflect on a remarkable event celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2018, Robyn’s update on a successful Mothers Day lunch and an invite to the online launch of a brand-new mental health initiative called ‘Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds’, which is designed to provide an industry-driven response to delivering better Mental Health outcomes to the road transport industry.

High Tea Morphettville

18th October, 2016

Well, whilst the weather was trying hard to spoil our day, there is no way it did – the setting in the beautiful Moet & Chandon Pavillion just created the best atmosphere and the staff led for our event by Kay ensured perfect surrounds. When we were setting up, we had the back drop of thoroughbreds going through their paces with morning track work.

As you will see by the album of pictures taken by Foundation Shine’s Angie Matheson, the tables just looked so special, Robyn’s artistic flair just adds unique and special touches to every event we run. This event, in particular Robyn’s centre pieces were just incredible so much so that all read More…

MOTHERS DAY LUNCHEON

FESTIVAL BANQUET ROOM – TUESDAY 5TH

MAY 2015

Wild and blustery weather could in no way impact on our annual luncheon celebration of Mothers held at the Festival Banquet Room.

On the banks of the Torrens with majestic swans and bird life lazing on the lawn within view of our room, all who attended would enjoy what was a wonderful day.

Our Compere Eve Goodings greeted our guests and navigated everyone through the array of draws, raffles and giveaways, which included, the best lucky dip, where everyone wins a prize well in excess of the $10.00 per ticket entry – Robyn May and Margi Lenzi work very hard to put together a stunning array of items up for grabs and on the day between Bob and Margi they are run off their feet, this year even calling in an extra helper in Barb.

Thanks to BeyondBlue, NewAccess Program a magnificent basket of Haigh’s chocolates was on offer for the business card draw. Raffle tickets for 6 stunning prizes and smiley face table centre draw to win Robyn’s very special centre piece which included a stunning orchid, inspirational book of Affirmations, shining star chocolates and a very generous gift voucher from Zink the Element of Hair. Each guest received a little box of positive Affirmations thanks to Margi Lenzi, a specially boxed chocolate gift from Bec Minuzzo of Ribbon Whirls, a hair product from Zink the Element of Hair and a very special C.D. from our own Sharon Middleton. If you are a regular to our lunches, you will know Que Sera Sera has kinda become our anthem, so Sharon decided to put this song down on C.D. with a selection of three others, as a gift for each lucky guest.

With the initial welcome and housekeeping done, it was time to hear from Robyn to talk about the event and thank our incredible sponsors, who without, running our functions would not be possible. This also involved giving all some insight into the organisations that we would be assisting by running the luncheon, which included BeyondBlue NewAccess, MIFSA Carer Counselling and Catherine House, whose aim is to Educate Women out of Homelessness. A short DVD of each was shown to create awareness and understanding.

Christmas Message from the President

As our final newsletter for the year goes to print, it is rather noticeable that Christmas is very much just around the corner! We have once again been able to make significant donations to those organisations who work hard on a daily basis, to make a difference to the lives of those suffering mental ill health. I warmly thank our very loyal donors and supporters for continuing to show such wonderful generosity in assisting Foundation Shine to further our vital cause of raising funds and awareness for mental health. For many of us, the festive season means fun and relaxation, but for others it can be a time of stress, financial pressures and loneliness. Support services report that suicide and selfharm are typically high over the Christmas period. At the same time, there is increased demand on mental health services and support when they are not running at full capacity.

Therefore, as family and friends it is important we look out for signs of mental health difficulties and offer comfort and kindness in the true spirit of Christmas. May this Christmas season bring you closer toall those that you treasure in your heart.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Warm Regards,

Robyn May

President

The beautiful and picturesque banks of the Torrens were the setting for the 2014 Annual Mother’s Day Event – and what a day it was. The room just looked gorgeous with Robyn’s beautiful table centres including a $75 voucher from ZINK: The Element of Hair and was complimented by silk embroidered heart eye pads made by Barb Reuter, with a citron pendant designed and made by Maria Kenda AM Jewellery. Bec Minuzzo of Ribbon Whirls further spoilt all guests with individual gift boxes filled with treats. Foundation Shine Inc. President, Robyn May delivered her speech of sincere thanks to all those who had made the day possible, but also explained the work of the organizations that received funding from proceeds for the day. They were Eating Disorders Assoc of S.A., Catherine House, Carer Support and Mental Illness Fellowship of S.A. Inc. Foundation Shine’s effervescent compere Eve Goodings greeted the ladies with her usual wit we have all become so accustomed to and joined with special guest, well known Adelaide personality and Advertiser Columnist Ali Clarke in a frank, interesting and inspiring chat. Ali Clarke is the patron for Carer Support.

The Catherines, the resident Catherine House Choir sang from their hearts and were overwhelmingly received by all. We were thrilled with the fashion parade of the gorgeous new season’s range from iconic fashion house Perri Cutten, with the models wearing designer hats created by Studio Hats and was finished off with designs from multi award winning couture designer Alexis George resulting in gasps from the audience in sheer adoration for the dreamy, fairytale designs. The beautiful models were so generously supplied by RMT Model Management with Suzie and Jo from Zink – The Element of Hair also donating their time and energy to ensure the models had amazing hair styles and Natasha finished it off with simply glamorous make up.

If all of that wasn’t enough, there was a lucky dip which kept Bobby and Margi flat out and Ku De Ta with their range of bags and jewellery satisfied the urge for retail therapy. Maria Kenda AM, patron and sponsor displayed some of her magnificent jewellery designs, carefully selected from the range available at the Hilton in Victoria Square, Adelaide.

The Silent Auction created some competitive rivalry as each tried to outbid each other. A lucky door prize, donated by Maria Kenda AM was received with much excitement so too the raffle winners !!

Shaz finished off the day with Foundation Shine’s adopted ‘anthem’ Que Sera Sera and brought to a close another very successful event.

The day promised to deliver happiness and I think there is no doubting we achieved that and more.

We raised $14,000 from the day, with Maria Kenda AM donating $4000.00 from the proceeds of sales. As a result the four organisations we set out to assist, each received $3500.00 to assist in their vital work in the community.

Sincere thanks to all who attended and donated goods and services to make the event such a success.

Another year has flown by and Foundation Shine would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you all for your loyal support over the past year and to wish you a Christmas and New Year filled with peace and happiness. As we celebrate the busy social lead up to Christmas with family and friends, we ask you to consider that 1 in 5 of us will experience a mental health problem in the next 12 months. For these people Christmas and the year ahead will not be the happy occasion it could and should be.

It is so hard to put into words the feelings of anxiety, distress & loneliness that a mental illness can cause. I would like to share a poem I recently read which really imparts this roller coaster ride of emotions.

New Appointments

Foundation Shine Inc proudly announces the appointment of an additional two Ambassadors to join existing Ambassador Graeme Goodings. Maria Kenda OAM and Amanda Blair both highly respected, successful individuals, passionate about helping those in need have agreed to be part of our team to create awareness and funding for mental ill health.

The beautiful setting of Adelaide Pavilion was enhanced by unseasonal magnificent sunshine for our very special annual ladies luncheon event, celebrating Mother’s Day. The glass windows, looking out onto the parklands was just perfect and suited Robyn’s very special table centres made from roses donated by Ruston’s Roses for which we sincerely thank Senator Anne Ruston for her generous support.

Raffles, door prizes and the silent auction were drawn with the day finishing with song, when I sang “You’ll Never Walk Alone” to a power point of famous faces that have suffered the pain of mental illness. We followed this up with what has become our ‘anthem’ Que Sera Sera – Eve was roaming the room with a microphone which prompted spontaneous sing-alongs!!

To stage an event such as this and for it to be successful, you must have sponsors on board and special guests to attend.

No one would have ever imagined at the inaugural Dia De Los Mertos in 2010 that this would become one of the most anticipated events on the Rockabilly calendar !!

The event saw Foundation Shine Inc and Kustom Kulture each receive just shy of $4000 each. Clearly the funds will make a significant difference to the work Foundation Shine is doing and for Kustom Kulture, the injection of funds will allow them to continue to secure headline acts to ensure the 2013 Dia De Los Muertos continues to be a huge success.

A word from the president

Here we are again at the beginning of another year. I am sure we have all enjoyed spending the festive season with family and friends. It can be a time for setting goals, reflecting on our life and thinking about our future.

We gratefully acknowledge our very generous sponsors and supporters who have kindly donated cash funds which have helped towards making this year so successful.
